Our Mission

A Foundation Built on the Belief That No Family Should Face the Unimaginable Alone.

The Addington Foundation for Burn Families exists to provide immediate assistance to out-of-town families whose loved ones have suffered severe burn injuries affecting 20% or more of their total body surface area and are receiving critical care in the Vanderbilt burn unit.

When a family arrives at the Vanderbilt burn ICU, their world has often been turned upside down without warning. Far from home and consumed by concern for someone they love, even the simplest decisions can feel overwhelming. Finding somewhere to stay, navigating an unfamiliar city, and remaining close to the hospital become pressing concerns.

Our Foundation Exists to Bridge the Gap.

By providing up to three nights of hotel accommodations and meal assistance, we offer families an immediate measure of stability while hospital support programs and longer-term resources are arranged.

We believe that during the most critical moments of a loved one’s recovery, a family’s time and attention should not be consumed by the logistics of being far from home. Our purpose is to relieve those initial pressures, allowing them to remain close to the person who needs them most—in the burn ICU.

Those First Critical Days

Our role is intentional. We focus on the family during the first 72 hours of a severe burn hospitalization.

We seek to work alongside hospital social workers and care teams, complementing existing assistance programs rather than duplicating them.

Our Commitment

We believe that true compassion is found not only in what we feel for others, but in what we are willing to do for them.

Our commitment is to meet families in their most vulnerable moments with dignity, urgency, and genuine care. To recognize the needs that often go unspoken, respond with thoughtful generosity, and provide meaningful relief when the ordinary comforts of life have been suddenly interrupted.

We are committed to being a trusted source of immediate assistance, working alongside hospital care teams to help bridge the distance between a family’s unexpected arrival and the support systems that follow.

Above all, we believe that no act of kindness is too small when it reaches someone in their greatest hour of need. Through every hotel room provided, every meal shared, and every family supported, we seek to turn that belief into something deeply felt and genuinely remembered.

The need may arrive without warning, but our response can be intentional. Together, we can ensure that when the next family faces a burn crisis, generosity is already waiting to meet them.
